`, •i
end caps. the plastic end caps will be sealed to the liner with plastic tape. Each sealed liner
will be labelled and placed on ice for storage and transportation. Samples from
approximately 15 feet below ground surface to approximately 35 feet in each boring (four
samples from each well) will be submitted under chain-of-custody to Pace Laboratories in
Novato,California where the samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons
and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes by EPA method 8015 (the detection limit
for BTE&X is 0.0005 mg/kg). Pace Laboratories is certified by the California Department
of Health Services Hazardous Materials Laboratory to perform hazardous and toxic
analyses for metals and inorganic and organic parameters as defined by Title 22 of the
California Administrative code under certificate number 148.
The other two liners will either be emptied or retained for reference. The contained soils in
one liner will be scanned for petroleum hydrocarbons with either a PID or FID organic
vapor detector. The soils will be described according to the Unified Soil Classification
System by a qualified geologist. Additional soil samples will be analyzed if the scanning
warrants the attention.
After the ground-water monitoring wells (MW7,MW8, MW9, and MW10) have been
allowed to stabilize for at least 24 hours, each well will be developed by hand surging with
a flapper-valve surge block and a bailer. Well development will continue until clear water
is discharged from the well or four hours, whichever is first. After well development, the
appropriate volume of water will be purged from each wells; approximately 3 to 5 casing
volumes of water will be purged from each well until the pH,conductivity, and temperature
in three successive bailers have stabilized.
The ground water from all eight onsite wells and two offsite wells will be sampled with a
clean 2-inch teflon or stainless steel bailer on a hand-held polypropylene line. The samples
will be poured quietly from the bailer into 40 ml VOA vials. The vials will be sealed with
teflon lined caps, labelled, and placed on ice for storage and transportation. The ground-
water samples will be submitted for analysis under chain-of-custody to Pace Laboratories.
The samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons and BTE&X by EPA
method 8015.
All development and purge water will be contained in barrels and stored onsite within a
fence. Later disposal of the contained water will be based on the analytical results from
each well.
10
