separation of wood chips from the soil. Site inspections were conducted by Mr. Ramirez
on April 3, 1993 and April 19, 1993 to evaluate the progress of cleanup efforts. He felt
continued effort was needed.
5. On April 24, 1993, Mr. Ramirez concluded that removal of wood chips in the area of
concern had been completed to his satisfaction. Present at the site during this inspection
were personnel from Santa Fe and Environmental Solutions,Inc. Mr. Ramirez then
provided a letter on May 4, 1993 indicating that the site had been clean to his satisfaction.
A copy of the letter is included in Appendix B.
6. Following the completion of removal activities, the three roll-off boxes were removed from
the site on May 4, 1993 and transported by Erickson, Inc. under bill-of-lading to CWM's
Kettlemen Hills facility for disposal. Copies of the bills of lading are included in
Appendix D.
4.0 CONFIRMATION SAMPLING
1. On May 4, 1993, confirmation samples were collected by Environmental Solutions, Inc.
from the surficial soils in the area where wood chips were removed. Ms. Pamela Violet of
SJCPHS and Mr. Art Ramirez of CDFG were onsite to witness the sampling event.
2. The area where wood chips were removed was measured to be approximately 356 feet long
by 72 feet wide. Stakes were used to divide the area into 16 approximately equal
quadrants. One sample was collected from the center of each quadrant. The locations of
the samples are shown in Figure 3. Samples were collected from a depth of approximately
six inches to one foot below the surface, just above the interface with undisturbed native
soil.
3. Ms. Violet requested four additional discrete random samples to be collected and analyzed
in a similar manor. Random sample locations were selected by Mr. Ramirez and marked
with stakes. The locations of the random samples are shown in Figure 3.
4. Following the completion of the sampling event, the samples were delivered under proper
chain-of-custody to Chromalab, Inc. At the laboratory, the 16 samples from the quadrants
were composited into a total of four composite samples. The four composite samples and
6
ENVIRONMENTAL SOLUTIONS
