exercises no control and assumes no responsibilities for actions not directly related to its own work activities.Access to these <br /> areas is unrestricted,and Support Zone areas are available for other uses during all non-working hours. <br /> The Support Zone can be used for set up and storage of all equipment, vehicles and supplies which are not required for <br /> immediate use in a defined work zone, and can serve as a work area for all non-hazardous tasks which might be undertaken <br /> (e.g.,paperwork). A break area will also be designated in the Support Zone where personnel can eat, drink, and smoke. The <br /> break area is the only place where such activities are permitted by contractor and subcontractor personnel. There are no <br /> requirements for delineation or marking of Support Zone boundaries since it encompasses all portions of the property where <br /> work activities or security considerations do not require access control. <br /> 9.3 WORK ZONE CONTROL RECORDS <br /> Work Zone control records will be maintained on a daily basis by the contractor or subcontractor. These records will be <br /> recorded and maintained by contractor or subcontractor, and will be made available to the SSO, if requested. Other <br /> information to be recorded will include details concerning monitoring efforts undertaken and results (if available), and <br /> unusual events that may occur. Site visitors and personnel who enter the site will be required to sign a visitor log at the DCVII <br /> field trailer. <br /> 10.0 HEALTH AND SAFETY OPERATING PROCEDURES <br /> 10.1 GENERAL <br /> 10.1.1 Smoking,Eating,and Drinking <br /> In order to minimise the potential for exposure to site contaminants, smoking, eating, drinking,gum chewing and application <br /> of cosmetics will not be permitted inside defined work zones at any time. Field workers, even those working in Level D <br /> conditions(see Section 7.2.1),will wash their bands and face prior to leaving and prior to eating or drinking. Consumption of <br /> alcoholic beverages is prohibited at the site. <br /> 10.1.2 Site Awareness <br /> Field crew members shall be familiar with the physical characteristics and requirements of the work site,including: <br /> • Accessibility to equipment and vehicles <br /> Communication <br /> • Defined work zones(areas of suspected contamination or significant physical hazard) <br /> • Site access <br /> • Supplemental illumination by mobile lighting <br /> Emergency procedures and evacuation assembly points <br /> • Location of protective and emergency equipment and relevant first-aid procedures. <br /> The number of personnel and equipment permitted inside any Work Zone should be minimized, consistent with site <br /> operations. <br /> 10.2 SITE HEALTH AND SAFETY MEETINGS <br /> 10.2.1 Site Safety Orientation <br /> The SSO will conduct a site safety orientation for every person assigned to the project on the following occasions: <br /> • Before field personnel begin work at the site <br /> • When there are significant revisions or modifications to the Health and Safety Plan <br /> Page 32 <br />
