A downtime occurs and it is discovered
that a hydraulic line failed and all of the
hydraulic fluid drained into the hopper. Is
this reported as a Spill or Leak? Yes or No
Answer: NO, we are only tracking a spill or leak
of a petroleum product that comes in contact
with the ground. In this case it drained into the
hopper where the hydraulic fluid was contained.
3. A hydraulic line breaks while servicing a
customer. The hydraulic fluid drains onto
their gravel parking lot. The driver marks
'Yes' classifying this as a Spill/Leak on
OCS. Is this correct?
Answer: Yes! This is the appropriate action. The
hydraulic leak resulted in a downtime and the
hydraulic fluid contacted the ground at an offsite
location. If the leak had been at a Waste
Management landfill or hauling yard, the driver
would not report it on OCS. It would still need to
be reported to your supervisor but it is not a
trackable incident in the Waste Management
system. The OCS is tracking our offsite impacts to
the environment.
OCT o7 2015
EPIVIRONMEN-''_
HEALTH DFPAPTAuPr, ;
SPCC -Version 1.2 P a g e 1 12
