— Geological Audit Services, Inc.
1803 W. March Lane, Suite A •Stockton, CA 95207 • (209)956-0264• FAX (209)956-0700
vPROPOSED MITIGATION
OF HYDROCARBON—CONTAMINATED SOIL
1245 W. Weber Avenue
Stockton, CA 95201
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Two underground fuel tanks were removed at Babka Distributing
Company in April, 1991. Laboratory analysis of soil samples
collected from the tank excavation were slightly contaminated with
diesel and gasoline. San Joaquin County Department of Environmental
Health has determined that due to the shallow depth of groundwater
in the area, this contamination poses an unacceptable risk to
public health and must be mitigated.
Falcon Energy Associates and Geological Audit Services have
been retained to assess the extent of contamination and remove it.
A backhoe will be used to excavate the contaminated soil, which
will temporarily be stored on site until laboratoroy analysis of
soil samples from the walls of the cavity have been received. After
the analyses confirm that the contaminated soil has been removed,
the cavity will be filled with clean fill and the contaminated soil
will be transported to a state-certified disposal facility, where
it will be incinerated.
Groundwater monitoring wells will be drilled around the
perimeter of the excavation and water samples will be collected
periodically and analyzed to determine whether the groundwater has
been contaminated. If contamination is found in the groundwater,
the contaminated water will he pumped out and placed in drums for
transport to a recycling facility, where the water will be treated
to remove the hydrocarbons. This process may take several months,
depending on the level of contamination.
NOV 0 8 1991 llvll
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
PERMIT/SERVICES
Environmental Services•Hydrogeology•Geotechnical Services
