15. If the material spilled has a Reportable Quantity requirement, determine <br /> if this quantity was exceeded. If so: <br /> a. During normal working hours, notify your Regional or Departmental <br /> Environmental Coordinator, who will contact the Environmental Services <br /> Department. <br /> b. If the Environmental Coordinator cannot be reached, contact the <br /> Environmental Services Department directly. <br /> c. If the spill occurs after normal working hours or on a weekend or <br /> holiday, contact the National Response Center (NRC) directly and give <br /> the NRC the following information: <br /> 1) Date, time, and location of spill . <br /> 2) Name and telephone number of person reporting the spill . <br /> 3) The type and estimated quantity of the spill . <br /> 4) Response actions taken to contain the spill . <br /> Document the date and time notification is made and the information <br /> provided. <br /> The National Response Center will relay spill information to <br /> appropriate state and federal agencies who will determine whether <br /> agency involvement is required. <br /> In most cases, no agency response will be required provided the <br /> company has taken immediate action to contain and clean up the spill . <br /> d. If you contact the National Response Center directly, notify your <br /> Environmental Coordinator or the Environmental Services Department as <br /> soon thereafter as possible. <br /> lb. If the spill enters a water body, the Environmental Coordinator or the <br /> Environmental Services Department will contact the appropriate California <br /> Regional Water Quality Control Board within 24 hours of becoming aware of <br /> the circumstances. <br /> 17. Identify the required level of personal protection prior to proceeding <br /> with cleanup of the spill . <br /> 18. If the spill is unmanageable, retain an outside contractor to perform the <br /> cleanup. Refer to the list of emergency cleanup contractors in <br /> Section 4E. <br /> 19. IF ABLE TO DO SO SAFELY, clean up the spill using the following steps: <br /> a. Contain all free-flowing liquids with proper absorbent compound. <br /> 40 <br /> b. Sweep up absorbent compound with stiff brooms and place in the proper <br /> container for disposal . <br /> 5-21 <br />
