All splices shall <br /> be provided with insulation equal to or greater than the <br /> insulation of the wire . Splices outlet boxes for <br /> fixtures or receptacles shall be completed by the use of <br /> the proper size Scotchlok insulated electrical spring <br /> connector , as manufactured by the 3M Company . A minimum <br /> of 12 inches free length shall be provided for each <br /> conductor to be spliced in an outlet box. <br /> 14. 12 FEEDER RACEWAYS : <br /> 14 . 12 . 1 Rigid steel conduit ( not intermediate steel conduit ) , <br /> hot dipped galvanized or sherardized , shall be used for <br /> all feeders . <br /> 14. 12 . 2 Contractor shall call for inspection by Engineer prior <br /> to backfilling rigid conduit raceways . <br /> 14. 13 FEEDER CONDUCTS ( if required) <br /> 14. 13 . 1 All feeder conductors shall be raw single conductor <br /> copper cable ; shall be rated at 600 volts ; shall bear <br /> the label of Underwriter ' s Laboratories , Inc . , Cables <br /> shall have Type USE -RHW ( not XHHW ) insulation ( G . E . <br /> Vulkene ) , and shall be tested as specified . <br /> 14 . 13 . 2 All cables , terminals , taps , and splices shall be made <br /> with solderless pressure type connectors , unless <br /> otherwise specified . All connections shall be made <br /> secure so that they will not loosen under vibration and <br /> normal strain. <br /> XIV-7 <br />
