Specification No . : RGS0024-87
Part II - SPECIFIC CONDITIONS
Section 10 - Earthwork
the side of the building below a line sloping down and
away at a 2 : 1 (horizontal to vertical ) slope from the
bottom outside edge of all footings . Do not backfill
trenches until tests and inspection have been made and
backfilling authorized by Engineer . Use care in
backfilling to avoid damage or displacement of pipe
systems .
10 . 6 . 3 Compaction:
10 . 6 . 3 . 1 General : Control soil compaction during construction
providing minimum percentage of density specified for
each area classification.
10 . 6 . 3 . 2 Percentage of Maximum Density Requirements : Compact
soil to not less than the following percentages of
maximum dry density for soils which exhibit a well
defined moisture density relationship determined in
accordance with ASTM D1557 -78 ; and not less than the
following percentages of relative density , determined
in accordance with ASTM D2049 , for soils which will
not exhibit a well defined moisture density
relationship .
10 . 6 . 3 . 2 . 1 . Structures : Compact subgrade and each layer of
backfill or fill material at 95 % relative dry
density .
10 . 6 . 3 . 2 . 2 Building Slabs : Compact subgrade and each layer of
backfill or fill materials at 95 % maximum dry
density .
10 . 6 . 3 . 3 Moisture Control : Where subgrade or layer of soil
material must be moisture conditioned before
compaction , uniformly apply water to surface of
subgrade , or layer of soil material , to prevent free
water appearing on surface during or subsequent to
compaction operations . Remove and replace , or scarify
and air dry , all material that is too wet to permit
compaction to specified density . Soil material that
has been removed because it is too wet to permit
compaction may be stockpiled or spread and allowed to
dry . Assist drying by discing , harrowing or
pulverizing until moisture content is reduced to a
satisfactory value .
• X-5
