Specification No . : RGS0024-87 <br /> Part II - SPECIFIC CONDITIONS <br /> Section 10 - Earthwork <br /> 10 . 6 . 4 Grading : <br /> 10 . 6 . 4. 1 General : Uniformly grade areas within limits of <br /> grading under this section , including adjacent <br /> transition areas . Smooth finished surface within <br /> specified tolerances , compact with uniform levels or <br /> slopes between points where elevations are shown, or <br /> between such points and existing grades . <br /> 10. 6 . 4. 2 Grading Outside Building Lines : Grade areas adjacent <br /> to building lines to drain away from structures and to <br /> prevent ponding . Finish surfaces free from irregular <br /> surface changes , and as follows : <br /> 10 . 6 . 4 . 2 . 1 Pavements : Shape surface of areas under pavement to <br /> line , grade and cross -section , with finish surface <br /> not more than 1 / 2 " above or below required subgrade <br /> elevation. <br /> 10 . 6 . 4 . 3 Grading Surface of Fill Under Slabs : Grade smooth and <br /> even , free of voids , compacted as specified , and to <br /> required elevation . Provide final grades within a <br /> tolerance of 1/ 2" when tested with a 10 ' straightedge . <br /> 10 . 6 . 4. 4 Compaction : After grading , compact subgrade surfaces <br /> to the depth and percentage of maximum density for <br /> each area classification . <br /> 10 . 6 . 5 Field Quality Control : Notify the Soils Engineer 4 <br /> working days prior to beginning excavation , trenching , <br /> and backfill and fill work. <br /> 10 . 6 . 6 Maintenance : <br /> 10. 6 . 6 . 1 Protection of Graded Areas : Protect newly graded <br /> areas from traffic and erosion . Keep free of trash <br /> and debris . Repair and reestablish grades in settled , <br /> eroded , and rutted areas to specified tolerances . <br /> 10 . 6 . 6 . 2 ReconditioninE Compacted Areas : Where completed <br /> compacted areas are disturbed by subsequent <br /> construction operations or adverse weather , scarify <br /> surface , reshape , and compact to required density <br /> prior to further construction. <br /> X-7 <br />
