' BANKS & CO <br /> ' K. If your task is complete in the trench, don't loiter! Vacate to the top <br /> side. <br /> L. Gases may exist at any time within the ground. It may be from pockets <br /> of decaying matter or a leaky gas main in the vicinity. A test will be <br /> ' made to see if gases are present but please don't smoke when you are in <br /> the trench. <br /> M. The spoil shall be at least 2 feet away from the edge of the excavation <br /> tat all times. <br /> N. Good housekeeping shall be observed at all times. Keep loose or unused <br /> articles well away from the excavation. <br /> O. Secure any surface water from entering the trench. In the event that a <br /> water or storm drain line should be broken while trenching, vacate the <br /> trench immediately! <br /> P. Keep all children, by-standers and unauthorized persons away from the <br /> trenching operation. The public safety shall always be a priority. <br /> Never stand or allow any part of your body under a suspended load of any <br /> kind. <br /> 12.14 EQUIPMENT <br /> ' A. No one shall be in the vicinity of or directly alongside the entry path <br /> of the excavator bucket while it is in motion. <br /> B. No riders shall be on any working piece of equipment including company <br /> pick-ups and other motor vehicles. <br /> C. Seat belts will be worn while operating any piece of equipment including <br /> company pick-ups and other motor vehicles. <br /> D. Employees shall have a valid California Drivers License and obey all <br /> motor vehicles laws while operating company equipment. <br /> ' E. All equipment having impaired rear vision shall have back-up alarms. <br /> F. No one shall ride or be carried in any loader or excavator type bucket <br /> or implement. <br /> G. No service or repair shall be done while the machine is running or in <br /> operation. <br /> H. All equipment implements must be lowered to the ground when not being <br /> operated and safety latches in place. <br /> ' 12.15 TRAFFIC CONTROL AND SAFETY <br /> A. Any employee flagging or working in traffic will be furnished and <br /> required to wear a fluorescent warning vest. <br /> ' B. Always be alert and aware of the traffic at all times. <br /> C. Always work within the established barricades or traffic barriers. <br /> ' Proper precautions and warnings will be used if it becomes necessary to <br /> temporarily leave the barricaded area. <br /> D. Proper warning, directive, routing signs and barricades shall be in <br /> ' place for as long as is necessary to complete the work within highway <br /> right of ways. <br /> 14 SITE SAFETY PLAN <br />
