• • • Department of Consumer Affairs <br /> State of California <br /> Memorandum CONTRACTORS STATE LICENSE BOARD <br /> (916) 366-5153 <br /> June 24, 1991 <br /> To: All Concerned Parties <br /> Subject: Licensing Requirements For Installation <br /> And Removal Of Underground Storage Tanks <br /> This will serve to confirm the latest policy of the Contractors <br /> State License Board regarding the proper license classifications <br /> for the installation and removal of underground storage tanks . <br /> This also serves as a reminder that effective January 1, 1992 all <br /> contractors bidding on or performing the installation and removal <br /> of underground storage tanks must hold the Hazardous Waste <br /> Certification issued by the Contractors State License Board. Senate <br /> Bill 2004 (Keene) added the certification requirement by amending <br /> the provisions of Business & Professions Code Section 7058 .7 . <br /> Under current Board policy only those contractors holding one of <br /> the following classifications are properly licensed to contract <br /> solely for the installation and/or removal of underground storage <br /> tanks: <br /> Plumbing Contractors (C-36)- Plumbing contractors may install any <br /> underground storage tank that provides a service to a building. <br /> This includes storage tanks for service stations . Any other type <br /> of underground storage tank may only be installed be a General <br /> Engineering Contractor (A) . <br /> Limited Specialty Contractor (C-61-D-40)- Service Station Equipment <br /> contractors may install fuel underground storage tanks at service <br /> stations or any other site up to a capacity of 20,000 gallons. <br /> General Engineering Contractors (A)- General Engineering <br /> contractors may install underground storage tanks for any purpose <br /> whatsoever at any location. <br /> A General Building (B) contractor may install or remove a <br /> underground storage tank only if such work is performed under <br /> contract to construct or remodel a building that houses people, <br /> animals or chattels, the work of which involves the use of three <br /> or more unrelated trades. <br /> All questions on this issue should be directed to the Licensing <br /> Staff of the Contractors State License Board at (916) 366-5205 . <br /> 13-M-30110/85) <br />
