(Ground Zero) documents
the underground storage tank (UST) removal and associated soil sampling activities at the former
Stockton Rapid Transit District yard located at 1533 East Lindsay Street in Stockton, California
(Figure 1).
SITE ACTIVITIES
Activities at the site included removal of eight (8) UST's and their associated product lines/dispenser
island and the collection and analysis of soil samples from beneath the UST's and product lines and
from the stockpiled soil. Experienced Ground Zero Geologists, under the supervision of a
licensed Professional Geologist, observed the UST removals and conducted the soil sampling
activities at the site. UST removal activities were performed by Jim Thorpe Oil, Inc. (Thorpe) of
Lodi, California (CAL -A & B HAZ License No. 495699). Mr. Jeff Wong of the San Joaquin
County Environmental Health Department (EHD) was onsite to oversee UST removal and soil
sampling activities.
UST Removal
On March 3, 2014, Thorpe exposed the USTs by excavating the overlying soil and stockpiling
the excavated soil adjacent to the tank pit. 100 to 300 pounds of dry ice per UST, depending on
the size of the UST, was then placed inside each tank in order to displace oxygen and residual
fuel vapors below their lower explosive limits (LEL).
G:\Dam\GROUNDZBSWloon RTD\Repona\UST Removal and Soil Sampling Repomdoox
