• UST Removal and Soil Sampling Report
' On March 4, 2014, the USTs were removed from the subsurface. Prior to removal, the LEL of
each tank was measured in the presence of the City of Stockton Fire Marshall. Once cleared by
' the Fire Marshall, the following USTs and associated product lines were removed from the
subsurface:
' The USTs were removed from the subsurface using a large crane and were stored on site,
secured on risers on top of visqueen plastic sheeting, pending destruction and proper disposal.
All eight of the USTs were constructed of doubled walled fiberglass and were in good condition
' upon removal. After the removal of the USTs and the subsequent soil sampling the UST pits
were backfilled with the stockpiled soil. Additional soil was added, as necessary, to backfill the
excavations to grade. The locations of the former USTs can be seen on the site plan included as
' Figure 2.
Soil Sampling
On March 4, 2014, Ground Zero Geologists Joe Vasquez and Andrew Dom collected soil samples
from beneath the former USTs and associated piping to investigate the presence or lack thereof of
' contamination beneath the tanks. EHD personnel was on site to observe and direct soil sampling
activities.
' Three soil samples per tank were collected beneath Tanks #1, 2, 3 and 4; one soil sample from
beneath each end and one from the center of each tank. Two soil samples per tank were collected
beneath Tanks #5, 6, 7 and 8; one soil sample from beneath each end. Two soil samples were
collected beneath the former dispenser island and product lines associated with Tanks #1, 2, 3, 4,
5 and 6. Nine soil samples (one every 20 feet) were collected beneath the product lines
associated with the motor oil tanks (Tanks #7 and 8). The soil samples collected from beneath
' the USTs were all collected out of the bucket of the excavator and the soil samples collected
beneath the dispenser and product lines were collected using a drive sampler. In addition, one
4:1 composite soil sample was collected from each 50 cubic yards of stockpiled soil. The soil
samples were all collected into clean stainless steel tubes. The tubes were sealed with Teflon®
tape, capped, uniquely labeled, and stored in an ice chest refrigerated to a temperature of
' approximately 4° C, pending transportation to the laboratory. The soil samples were sent, under
chain -of -custody protocol, to Argon Laboratories ([Argon] ELAP #2359) of Ceres, California for
analysis.
