Outline of Daily.Safety Briefings <br /> • Hardhats will be worn while working around heavy equipment as needed, safety <br /> glasses, ear plugs, boots, etc. will be worn on the job site. <br /> • No open flames, cigarettes, etc. will be allowed in the work area. <br /> B.) Excavation Procedures (If applicable): <br /> • Before any excavation work begins, ALL required permits shall be obtained. The <br /> estimated location of utility installations such as sewer, telephone, fuel, electric, water <br /> lines, or any other underground installations that may reasonably be expected to be <br /> encountered during excavation will be outlined. U.S.A. Dig will be called 48 hours <br /> • The slope of the walls of the excavation is determined by soil conditions and depth of <br /> excavation. <br /> • Handling excavated materials which cannot be immediately removed from the site <br /> should be safely stockpiled away from the edge of the excavation keeping work areas <br /> clear of stockpiled material. Employees shall be protected from the excavation or <br /> other materials or equipment that could pose a hazard by falling or rolling into an <br /> excavation. Protection shall be provided by placing and keeping such materials or <br /> equipment at least 2 feet from the edge of the excavation or by use of retaining devices <br /> that are sufficient to prevent materials or equipment frorn falling in. <br /> • Employees shall not work in excavations where there is accumulated water unless <br /> adequate precautions have been taken to protect employees. <br /> • Where the competent person finds evidence of a situation that could result in possible <br /> cave in, indications of failure of protective systems, hazardous atmospheres, or other <br /> hazardous conditions, exposed employees shall be removed from the hazardous area <br /> until the necessary precautions have been taken to insure their safety. <br /> • All personnel working on the job site must wear safety gear. Hard hats, safety glasses, <br /> ear plugs, work boots, and gloves. Ladders and a safety harness should also be on site. <br /> C.) Potential Health and Safety Hazards.- <br /> Physical: <br /> azards:Physical: No one is allowed to enter a trench or tank excavation deeper than five feet. <br /> - Watch out for heavy equipment. <br />
