4.4 Buddy System <br /> Project personnel are to work with another pe on when performing sampling tasks; the client or a <br /> '- subcontractor's representative can serve as the cond person while the work is being conducted in the <br /> field. Under no circumstances, other than completion of paper work at the end of the day, are field <br /> ` personnel to work alone at the site. <br /> 4.5 Work Zone Controls <br /> A well-defined Exclusion Zone(EZ)with a decontamination area and Support Zone will be established <br /> at the work site to control access and exclude the public. Only authorized personnel and equipment <br /> operators, trained on this Plan, and equipment and materials necessary for work in the <br /> exclusion zone will be allowed in the exclu,,ion zone The EZ will be defined and isolated using <br /> ` temporary fencing or other suitable barriers and include warning signs to ensure site hazards are <br /> communicated. <br /> ►• 4.6 Code of Safe Practices <br /> General safe work practices to be utilized by all project personnel are summarized below: <br /> • All nonessential personnel will be kept clear f work areas. <br /> • The use of entertainment and personal comm inication devices in the work zone shall not be <br /> allowed. <br /> • Adequate signs and safety devices will be in fled on equipment. <br /> • All site employees will wear assigned pers nal protective equipment and level of protection as <br /> designated by the Site Safety Officer. <br /> • Eating, drinking, smoking, chewing gum o tobacco, or application of cosmetics is allowed in <br /> �- designated areas only. <br /> • At a minimum, all personnel will wash with soap and water before lunch, using the restroom, and <br /> at the end of work. The face and hands shall be washed before eating, drinking, smoking, chewing <br /> gum, applying cosmetics, etc. <br /> • Over-the-counter drugs and prescription med cations must be reported to the Site Safety Officer for <br /> ` clearance before an employee is allowed to m ork near drill rig or other heavy equipment. <br /> • When portable electric tools and equipment are used,three-wire extension cords are required. <br /> 4 • Employees will advise their supervisors of ary malfunctioning equipment immediately. <br /> • An ongoing safety maintenance program for tools and equipment will be instituted. Inspections <br /> will occur on a regular basis to ensure parts are secure and intact.
