1 „/
6.0 DECONTAMINATION
Decontamination will be performed within the boundaries of the Exclusion Zone area. The primary
principle in consideration of decontamination pr cedure is: avoid unnecessary contamination of heavy
equipment, sampling equipment and materials,a d PPE worn by project personnel.
Decontamination procedures will be tailored t the specific hazards of the site and may vary in
complexity and number of steps, depending on he extent of potentially impacted soils required to be
handled, and the Level of Protection and PPI required for potential employee exposure hazards.
Decontamination methods and procedures will be routinely evaluated as necessary by the SSO to
assure that employees are not exposed to hazards from equipment or by reusing PPE.
The following decontamination (cleansing/dis sal) procedures for equipment and PPE have been
- developed with the intent of reducing the potential for the transfer of hazardous soil from the site(s).
Decontamination should be performed in direct proximity to each work area. The primary principle in
consideration of decontamination procedure is: Avoid unnecessary contamination of PPE and
Sampling Equipment.
., 6.1 Construction Materials and Equipment
Only authorized personnel meeting the training requirements outline in Section 2.2 will be permitted to
,. work in the designated Exclusion Zone. Soil, dust, debris, water and decontamination rinseate will be controlled
to prevent entering nearby storm drains, creeks,or streams.
` Decontamination of soil sampling equipment shall include washing with a solution of TSP, Alconox,
or Liquinox® and water followed by a double r nse of deionized water between samples and before
vacating the work area
6.2 Equipment Decontamination
6-
Decontamination of soil sampling equipment shall include washing with a solution of TSP, Alconox,
or Liquinox and water followed by a tap wate rinse and a third rinse of deionized water between
L samples and before vacating the work area.
L
Linden UST SI and Removal,Task Order No.34 Caltrans Contract 06AI895,EFIS 10-1300-0181-0
Geocon Project No.59800-01-34 -20- October 2013,Revised September 2014
L
