Health and Safety Plan • •Page 9
STOCKTON PROMENADE PROPERTY June 12,2008
WKA No.7345.05
Excavation activities will occur according to the procedures outlined in the safe practices listed
below. The subcontractor will acquire a required trenching permit as required by the Division of
Occupational Safety and Health(DOSH)for work in excavations. The DOSH will also be
notified of all trenching activities that require notification. While not anticipated, excavations
requiring shoring will be designed and approved by a Registered Civil Engineer prior to entry by
site personnel.
All personnel who may be required to enter an excavation must have received training in
excavation safety procedures prior to entry.
6.0 SAFE WORK PRACTICES FOR WORKING WITH CONTAMINATED SOIL
The following work practices will be adopted for work at this site that involves handling,
moving, transporting, testing, or coming into contact with soil containing elevated levels of
chemicals of concern:
• Prevent the resuspension of dust using water.
• Prevent soil ingestion by prohibiting eating, smoking, drinking and chewing tobacco or
gum outside of the project designated areas.
• Prevent runoff of water applied to prevent the resuspension of dust.
• Wash hands and face before eating, drinking, smoking,or using bathroom. This requires
an adequate supply of wash water, soap, and towels on site. Store food and water so it
will not be contaminated.
• Read, review and sign the Health and Safety Work Plan.
All material handling, transportation and placement operations will be conducted to prevent
visible dust. The material will either be placed directly into a truck for off-site disposal or in a
stockpile until it can be reused on-site. Excavation activities will occur according to the
procedures outlined in the safe practices listed above. See Sections 5.3.6 and 5.3.8 of the RAP
for more information on dust, vapor, and soil management practices.
