RECERWD
a
MAY 0 6 2015
7.4 MONITORING EQUIPMENT
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
VICES
A Photo Ionization Detector (PID) Instrument, such as a M ni Rae 2000, or equivalent, will be
used to identify levels of hexane in job site soil while performing excavations. A four-gas
meter will be used to identify any atmospheric deficiencies in oxygen, lower explosive limits,
and any potential for toxic vapors, such as carbon monoxide or hydrogen sulfide, in the work
areas.
7.5 DECONTAMINATION REQUIREMENTS
PERSONNEL:
All personnel leaving the active work area will be required to decontaminate personal
protective clothing in the Decontamination Zone prior to leaving the site for breaks, lunch or
end of work shift. The following operations, appropriate to protection level, are to be
accomplished for decontamination. Wash boots and outer gloves in TSP and water, rinse and
remove outer gloves. Remove and bag Tyvek. If cotton coveralls are used, remove and bag
prior to rewearing. If worn, remove respirator, and wash in TSP and rinse in water. Remove
surgical gloves and dispose in a plastic trash bag. Wash hands and face. Take a shower and
wash hair as soon as possible after leaving site.
Materials required for this decontamination will consist of: plastic sheeting, polyethylene bags,
sufficient water for soaping and rinsing, several large tubs, TSP soap, brushes, hand soap
toweling, and drums.
HEAVY EQUIPMENT:
The Contractor will decontaminate all contaminated equipment utilized before it is used at
another locale, or before the equipment leaves the site. Any contaminated material, other
than soil samples will be placed in metal drums or covered in plastic and stored on site,
according to Federal, State and Local Regulatory Agencies, until the material is analyzed for
future disposal.
The following equipment/materials could be utilized for decontamination of the heavy
equipment: 55-gallon drums, polyethylene bags, labels and signs, trough/wash area, and
portable steam cleaner.
7.6 SAFETY EQUIPMENT
While the UST excavation activities are in progress, the subcontractor is to provide a First-Aid
Kit, eyewash kit, fire extinguisher, and sorbent material for personnel at a site being worked.
11/07/2005 revision 5 12
