Howard ended up by taking our samples from customer to customer
telling them "we' ll be selling this lettuce this fall , grown
right here in Fresno County for 99 cents" . He was very receptive
to our price of $7. 20 per box.
There had to be a produce manager somewhere who wasn' t 100:
sold on our lettuce. We found him at Country Bey Market-Heardon
& West in Fresno. The price of $7. 20 per box didn' t bother trim,
but he wanted to knew if ether markets are going to carry our
lettuce. When he saw the list , he says " I ' ll carry it to. "
Mountain Produce owner DAvid Paloian is a jobber-distributer
in Fresno. We were pleased to find he already buys "Green Rose''
• from Distributors in LA. Put , he says " it ' s hard to get it
" fresh" . Sometimes I have to buy it off the street . " Dave feels
our price of $7. 20 per box is to low. He says "the lettuce is
great " . Dave serves the mountain area northeast of Fresno,
including Yosemite. He already buys 25 boxes a week:-when he can
get it . But he expects to buy much more from us. Actually, we
won' t have to deliver to Dave in Fresno. He' ll pick up his
weekly order at Canyon Fork Market in Prather . That ' s a very
active store right in our neighborhood. Just 15 miles from our
factory. Marty Peoples, the produce manager at Canyon Fork has
been allowing :ore our samples from Somis there. So, he
and many others in the store have been eating our lettuce. Marty
feels it will be greatly accepted by his customers. And at our
price of $7. 20 per bola; he too plans to sell at 99 g=ents.
Here' s a very important paint-that we held as the last thing
• to tell all the managers in our survey. After each had already
said "Yes" we' ll carry your lettuce; we told them we do not use
any chemical pesticides in our growing process. This was a very
pleasant surprise to them and all say they will include that in
their ads.
Each of the individual markets expect to start with orders
of 5 to 10 boxes per week. Some more. All expect that will
increase in just a few month.
So, with Save Mart taking more than 1000 boxes a week,
Mountain Produce at least 25 and the individual market orders, we
will be selling our weekly production of 1250 boxes and at a very
good price for our Lettuce Factory, for the markets and also for
v the consumers.
