WEISS ASSOCIATES
P. Hernandez / 20 July 1988 / Page 2
1. DIAGRAMS
Diagrams showing the sampling loctions and the orientations of the underground
vaults and the nearby above-ground structures are included in the enclosed revised
sampling plan as figures 3a through 3h.
2. ANALYTIC RELEASE FORM
Prior to starting work, Diamond Walnut Growers (DWG) will submit to the SJLHD a
release form authorizing the release of the analytic results for the soil sampling.
3. BORING APPLICATION
WA will submit a application for soil boring to the SJLHD prior to starting work.
4. VAULT SAMPLING
Since the SJLHD requested analysis of four samples from beneath each vault, page
6, paragraph 2 of the 1 May 1988 sampling plan (page 14, paragraph 2 of the enclosed
revised sampling plan) is amended as follows:
Soil samples will be collected from soil borings drilled beneath each end of the
vaults. Two samples will bq analyzed from each boring. Samples adiacent ).g the bottom
of the vaults and three to four ft beneath the vaults will be analyzed as discussed in
Section 3.4. Analyzing samples from several f1 beneath L vaults increases the
probability of detecting chemicals that may not have leaked directly above the location of
the samples collected adiacent Lo the bottom of the vaults,
5. ETHYLENE GLYCOL ANALYSES
To satisfy the SJLHD requests for verification of the ethylene glycol analyses, page
8, paragraph 4 of the I May 1988 sampling plan (page 16, paragraph 4 of the enclosed
revised sampling plan) is amended as follows:
Samples collected from beneath vaults 1, 5 and 6 will be analyzed for ethylene
glycol by gas chromatography/flame ionization detection usin a "DB Wax" megabore-tvve
chromatographic column. Since there are no existing Environmental Protection Agency
EPA protocols fgr this analytic technioue. jhg analytic laboratory will provide thp.
following verification information with the analytic results:
11 Descriptions of theas mole preparation and extraction procedures:
