If contact is made with poison oak <br /> or poison ivy wash the contact area thoroughly with soap and water as soon as possible after contact <br /> occurs. <br /> 5.0 CHEMICAL HAZARDS <br /> 5.1 INHALATION <br /> Care should be exercised to avoid creating excess dust during sampling activities. Personnel will work <br /> up-wind of sampling locations. <br /> 5.2 DERMAL CONTACT <br /> Care should be exercised to prevent contact of soil with skin.Use of gloves and disposable clothing(if <br /> necessary)will reduce skin contact with soil. <br /> 5.3 INGESTION <br /> Eating and smoking will not be allowed within the exclusion zone. <br /> 6.0 TRAFFIC HAZARDS <br /> Field activities taking place in public streets or on road shoulders shall use Caltrans approved flagging <br /> and traffic control during the duration of activities. While working in public streets with heavy traffic <br /> assume that the operator of a motor vehicle is unable to see you and keep a safe distance from moving <br /> traffic. Keep off roadways, when practical, and away from moving traffic. Approved safety vests will be <br /> worn by all personnel when working in areas of traffic hazard. <br /> 7.0 COMMUNICATION PROCEDURES <br /> The following standard hand signals will be used if and when required. <br /> Hand gripping throat................Out of air,can't breathe <br /> Grip partner's wrist or <br /> both hands around waist...........Leave area immediately <br /> Hands on top of head................Need assistance <br /> Thumbs up................................OK,rm all right,I understand <br /> Thumbs down...........................No,negative <br /> 8.0 EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLAN <br /> On-site personnel will use the following standard emergency procedures. The Site Safety Officer shall be <br /> notified of any on-site emergencies and be responsible for ensuring that the appropriate procedures are <br /> followed. Emergency Procedures should be modified as required for the incident. <br />
