• • Health and Safety Plan <br /> November 19,2007 <br /> Page 5 <br /> Personal injury: Upon notification of an injury, the Site Safety Officer will assess the nature of <br /> the injury. If the injury is in the area of the drilling equipment, the equipment shall be shut down <br /> to eliminate running equipment hazards. Equipment will remain shut down until the Site Safety <br /> Officer authorizes work to proceed. If the cause of the injury or loss of the injured person does <br /> not affect the performance of site personnel, operations may continue. <br /> Fire/Explosion: In the event of a fire or explosion on site, the Site Safety Officer or alternate <br /> shall call 911 (the fire department) and all personnel shall be moved to a safe distance from the <br /> involved area. <br /> Personal Protective Equipment Failure: If any site worker experiences a failure or alteration of <br /> protective equipment that affects worker's protection, that person shall immediately proceed to <br /> the nearest staging area to repair or replace the damaged equipment. The person shall not return <br /> to the work area until the protective equipment is repaired or replaced. If the equipment can not <br /> be repaired or replaced, the worker will proceed to the primary staging area specified by the Site <br /> Safety Officer or leave the site. <br /> Other Equipment Failure: If any other equipment on site fails to operate properly, the Site Safety <br /> Officer shall be notified and then determine the effect of this failure on continuing operations on <br /> site. If the failure affects the safety of personnel or prevents completion of the work plan tasks, <br /> all personnel shall leave the work area until the situation is evaluated and appropriate actions <br /> taken. <br /> 8.1 EMERGENCY MEDICAL INFORMATION FOR SPECIFIC HAZARDS PRESENT: <br /> 8.1.1 Hazard- Heat stress <br /> Symptoms of Exposure -Acute: Dizziness, headache,nausea, dryness of the mouth,reduced mental ability, <br /> elevated body temperature,chills,and clamminess. <br /> First Aid - Move person to a shaded, cool area. Wet person down with cool water. Wetting the head with <br /> quantities of cool water will help reduce body temperature. Have person drink cool water. Seek medical <br /> attention for severe cases. <br /> 8.2.1 Hazard- Particulate inhalation <br /> Symptoms of Exposure - Acute: Nose and throat irritation, congestion, coughing, shortness of breath, <br /> asphyxiation. <br /> First Aid-Remove person to fresh air. <br /> 8.3.1 Hazard-Sun burn,eye burn <br /> Symptoms of Exposure-Acute: Pain and discomfort of exposed area,eye irritation,leads to heat stress. <br /> First Aid - Remove person from sunlight, flush effected area with cool, clean water. If a minor skin bum, <br /> apply first aid cream. If severe,seek medical attention. <br />
