Equipment for Containing and Cleaning Spills
Here's the equipment you'll use to contain and clean spills. You will find this equipment in
the Spill Kit.
When Containing Spills...
Storm Drain Cover
Place these over the storm drains to stop fuel from entering them. Use epoxy strips
to keep the cover firmly in place.
Booms or Socks
Unroll and place these around storm drains, ditches, or gutters to stop fuel from
entering.
Absorbent Pads
Place these around the storm drains to stop fuel from entering.
Epoxy Plug
Use this to seal small holes in a truck's leaking fuel tank.
Pop-up Pool
Place the pool under a leaking fuel tank when the hole is too large to use the epoxy
Plug.
When Cleaning Up Spills...
Goggles & Rubber Gloves
Wear these to protect eyes and hands during spill clean up.
Sphag Sorb
Sphag Sorb is a product made from peat moss. It absorbs and encapsulates oil, gas,
and other chemicals, but resists taking on water. It has the consistency of cat litter.
Pour Sphag Sorb on spills to absorb the fuel.
Booms or Socks
Unroll and place these in puddles to absorb the fuel.
Absorbent Pads
Place on spills to absorb the fuel.
Yellow Bags &Hazardous Labels
Place used absorbent materials in these yellow bags after cleaning up a spill. Attach
a hazardous label on the bag so that anyone who handles it knows the contents of
the bag.
4
