PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD ACTIVITIES
Kleinfelder and the drilling subcontractor will contact Underground Service Alert, and
the drilling locations will be marked in white paint at least 48 hours prior to conducting
fieldwork to notify local utilities of our proposed subsurface assessment. An application
for the permit to advance the soil borings will be filed with the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department along with the appropriate fee.
1.2. TEMPORARY PIEZOMETER INSTALLATION
At this time, Kleinfelder proposes to install four (4) temporary groundwater piezometers
at the site to assess existing groundwater level conditions The installation of the
piezometers will be completed under the direct supervision of a California State
licensed Engineer or Geologist.
The soil borings will be drilled with a truck-mounted drill rig equipped with at least a 6-inch
hollow stem auger. We propose to advance the borings to a total depth of approximately
50-feet for the completion of each piezometer. During advancement of the soil borings,
soil samples will be collected at 5-foot interval for lithologic classification. Lithologic
classification will be based on the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). A staff
engineer or geologist will log the soil borings.
We will process select soil samples from the borings (e.g., 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 feet).
The soil samples will be analyzed for grain size (sieve, coarse and fine, minus #200
wash).
Following completion of drilling the soil borings, a clean 2-inch diameter PVC
piezometer will be installed in each boring. The wells will be constructed with schedule
40 PVC, a 40-foot long 0.020 inch screened section surrounded by and covered by a
87057/ST09L024 Page 3 of 7 February 5, 2009
Copyright 2009 Kleinfelder
