I <br /> 1.0 INTRt DUCTION <br /> 1. This Workplan for Evaluation of Sack round Ground Water Quality has been prepared on <br /> g , <br /> behalf of The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company (BNSF).and describes the <br /> activities for assessment of the background ground water quality at the proposed BNSF <br /> Stockton Intermodal Facility site located adjacent to and south of the BNSF main rail track <br /> between Austin Road on the west and Jack Tone Road on the east in San Joaquin County, <br /> California. The location of the site is shown in Figure 1. <br /> 2. The ground water evaluation described herein is intended to define background ground water <br /> quality upgradient of the proposed oil water separator (OWS) and evaporation pond in <br /> compliance with Title 27 Section 21750(8), <br /> 3. This Workplan has been prepared in respo7'WQCB's) <br /> to the California Regional 'Water Quality <br /> Control Board- Central Valley Region's( December 20, 1999 letter. <br /> 4. The proposed scope of work includes installation of one ground water monitoring well to be <br /> located near the property boundary in the upgradient direction of ground water flow. The <br /> proposed well will provide information regarding quality of ground water flowing onto the <br /> property (i.e.,background). Additional pr eet background information is presented in <br /> Section 2.0, the proposed scope of work i presented in Section 3.0, and the proposed <br /> schedule is presented in Section 4.0. <br /> 2.0 BACKGROUND <br /> I <br /> I. BNSF is planning to build a new Intermodal Facility east of Stockton, California in San Joaquin <br /> County. The Intermodal Facility will be built on 470 acres of land adjacent to and south of the <br /> BNSF main rail track between Austin Road on the west and Jack'Pone Road on the east. A <br /> vicinity map showing the approximate location of the proposed Intermodal Facility is presented <br /> in Figure 1. <br /> 2- The proposed Intermodal Facility will be used for transferring shipping containers and trailers <br /> between railcars and semitrailer trucks. Specialized cranes will be used to load and unload the <br /> containers and trailers onto and off of railcars.
