i
3, An element of the proposed project will be aOWS (Asea 25 shown in Figure 2) and
Evaporation Pond(Area 20 in Figure 2)forhe treatment and disposal of wastewater and
storm water from industrial process areas of'the Intermodal Facility. Effluent from the OWS
would normally be discharged to the sanitary sewer at this type of facility. However, sanitary
sewer service is not available at this location and effluent from the OWS must be
managed onsite.
4. A,Report of Waste Discharge (ROWD) for the OWS and evaporation pond was submitted to
the RWQCB on July 21, 1999. In a comment letter dated December 20, 1999, the RWQCB
requested that the background quality of the ground water at the site be evaluated.
3.0 SCOPE OF WORK
3.1 APPROACH
1 . To evaluate the background quality of ground water at the site, one upgradient ground water
monitoring well (MW-1) will be installed and monitored. MW-1 will be located near the
northeast property boundary (see Figure 2 for approximate location of the well) in the
anticipated upgradient flow direction to evaluate background ground water quality. It is
anticipated that MW-1 will provide data to+aluate the ground water quality on the upgradient
side of the proposed OWS and EvaporationPond_ The direction of ground water flow within
the uppermost flow zone is primarily to the southwest in the site area. This evaluation is
based on information contained in the San Joaquin County, California Flood Control and
Water Conservation District, Sprang 1988 Ground Water Report.
3.2 DRILLING AND SOIL SAMPLING
1. Field work will be performed by TRC personnel under the direct supervision of a California
Registered Geologist (RG) or a Professional Civil Engineer(PE).
2. Prior to drilling, a well construction permit will be obtained from the San Joaquin County
Public Health Services Environmental Health Division and Dia Alert will be notified to assess
the potential presence of underground pipelines or utilities.
I
2 TRC
cusbr e4ccused Savfivns
ZO 'd bb:bl 00, Zz Inf
