t
 1
LEVINE•FRICKE
1 The main crops grown at the Site in recent years, according to
Mr. Ripkin, include asparagus, corn, wheat, l,safflower and
alfalfa. Records provided to Levine•Frickeiby the San Joaquin
County Agricultural Commissioner (SJCAC);' indicate that sugar
beets were also possibly grown on the Site. Based on
Levine•Fricke's review of aerial photographs` of the Site and
information contained in documents providedto Levine-Fricke by
the SJCAC, these crops have been rotated to different portions of
the Site over the period of Site usage. !'
I
` The Quonset but that presently exists in the northeast corner of
' the Site was reportedly constructed in the early 1950s as an
- asparagus packing facility. According to Mr,. Ripkin, this shed
was never to his knowledge used to store' agricultural chemicals
or other hazardous materials (personal communication, December
1989) .
According to Mr. Ripkin, no maintenanceof farm equipment except
for fueling of field equipment is performed at the Site. All
other farm equipment maintenance work is: conducted at another,
larger ranch located near Robert's Islari'd.
According to Mr. Ripkin, who is also President of Reclamation
District No. 2074, material dredged fromlFourteenmile Slough was
placed in 1985 and 1987 on the land sidelof the levee which bor-
ders the Fourteenmile Slough (personal communication, November,
1988) . This levee forms the northern border_pof the Site.
Dredged materials are commonly used for ;levee construction.
According to Mr. Kevin Huber, the final 'phase of levee construc-
tion was completed in June through Septeiaber of 1988 (personal
communication, March 1989) . Based on information provided by Mr.
Ripkin and Mr. Huber, and from a review of aerial photographs,
tnere is no indication that dredged materialswas placed on the
field area of the Site.
5.2 Chemical Use, Storage, Handling and Disposal
Fuel Storage
1
t
A 500-gallon gasoline tank was reportedly previously located on
the north side of the Quonset but near the western corner of the
building (Figure re 5) (Personal communication, " Mr.
Robert Ripkin,
Januar I
January, 1989) . According to Mr. Ripkin, the tank was removed
with a backhoe approximately two years ago. The tank was
reportedly steel, unlined and located about one foot below grade.
The tank had not been in use for approxiaatey 10 years prior to
its removal (personal communication, Mr. [Bob ;jRipkin, January l
1989) . Mr. Ripkin was not able to provide information an when
the tank was installed. According to Mr's Ripkin,- the tank
appeared to be in good condition upon removal, and was removed
due to lack of use (personal communication, January 1989) .
if
-4-
