1
3
LEVINE•FRICKE
interview were to observe general site conditions, to inquire
about use, storage, handling and disposal
11of potential hazardous
chemicals, and to look for indications ofpossible release(s) of
chemicals to the environment. The Site vicinity had been
inspected during a drive-by survey conducted by Levine-Fricke
personnel on October 19, 1988. !'
s3
6.1 The Site
} The following evidence of on-site use, storage, spillage, or dis-
posal of potentially hazardous materials was observed during the
Site inspection.
i Two (tanks g above- round storage one 1 0001 gallon capacity,g g P Y. 'and
one 500-gallon capacity) were observed near the southwest corner
of the Quonset but (Figure 5) . ' A small area (approximately 1 by j
2 feet) of soil beneath the outlet of the]1500 °gallon tank (south
of the hut) was observed to be stained, likely as a result of r
spilled fuel. According to Mr. Ripkin, these tanks are used to
store diesel fuel for farm machinery and are re--filled about once
every year (personal communication, December 1988) .
Small stains, which appear to be of oil, werelobserved on the
1 concrete floor inside the Quonset hut. At the time of the
inspection, the but was being used to store old machine parts and'
equipment. No evidence indicating hazardous material storage or
spillage was observed either inside or outside of the hut. The
concrete floor inside the but was in goods.condition, and no major 's
cracks or degradation were observed that could provide potential
pathways for migration of materials spilled on its surface. A
cement pad was observed to border the exterior of the but along
the western wall. A few old, empty, unlabeled cans, sacks of
what appeared to be fertilizer, -and pieces ofdequipment were j
stored here. '
 t
No other evidence of potential sources oflchemicals that might
affect soil or ground-water quality at the Site was observed
E
during the Site inspection.
6.2 Neighboring Properties
A large Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) power substation is located
adjacent and to the east of the Site, across a private access
road. Information concerning the presence ofAPCBs in equipment
at this facility is summarized in Sectionj17.2
As discussed in Levine•Fricke's report concerning the Brookside
Ranch to the south, the Tsutsui property located in APN No.
114-020-01 and bordering the northwest corner `of the Site was
observed to contain numerous abandoned and rusted 55-gallon
drums, as well as abandoned vehicles, machinery and other
I
I -6-
