LEVINE•FRICKE
1 7.2 Neighboring Areas
Spill/Release/Contamination Case Lists
No fuel release cases were found on the lists presented in
Appendix A within a -1/2-mile radius of the Site. No hazardous
sites or contamination cases were found on the lists within a
one-mile radius of the Site.
Toxic Pits, Chemical Release Cases
The Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) - Central Valley
Region was contacted during the investigation of the Brookside
Ranch concerning the presence of leaking underground tanks, sites.
on the State "Toxic Pits" list, or other known chemical release
cases in the vicinity of the Site. With respect to leaking
underground storage tanks, the RWQCB was not aware of any cases
in the vicinity of the Ranch, including the Ripkin Site (personal
communication, Mr. Matthew Lease, November 1988) .
With respect - to the Toxic Pits list, Mr. James Brathovde provided
the names of sites on the list which are located in San Joaquin
County. None of these sites are within a one--mile radius of the
Site.
According to Ms. Ton Vorster and Mr. David Brent, Area Engineers
for the RWQCB, the only major environmental investigation that
they were aware of in the Site vicinity was at the Rough and
Ready Island Naval Communications Center, located about 1.5
miles south of the Site, across the Calaveras River (personal
communication, November, 1988) . This case is discussed in some
detail in Levine•Fricke's report on the Brookside Ranch site.
Because of the distance of this site to the subject property and
the hydraulic barrier of the Calaveras River, contamination at
this facility is unlikely to affect the Site.
Landfills
The SJLHD was contacted with respect to the presence of abandoned
1 or active landfills in the vicinity of the Brookside Ranch.
Mr. Harlin Knoll of the District was not aware of any such land-
fills within several miles of the Site (personal communication,
October, 1988) .
PG & E Substation
1 According to Mr. Dave Meek of PG&E, the Stagg substation was
constructed in 1968. No records are reportedly maintained
concerning spills of substances at the facility; however,
1 according to Mr. Meek, two PG&E employees who have worked at the
station since its construction do not recall any spills_ All
-9-
