r EN V I R 0 M E T R I X Grupe Development Company May 16, 1996 Mr, Shane Hart Page 3 of 4 SOIL EXCAVATION AND CLEARANCE SAMPLING EMC excavated approximately 60 cubic yards of soil to a depth of 1.5 feet along the western edge of the Quonset Hut. Jim Thorpe Oil, Inc. (Thorpe), Lodi, California excavated the contaminated soil using a John Deere 410?backhoe. The excavated area was approximately 25 feet by 60 feet by 1.5 feet (Plate 5). EMC marked the approximate locations of samples Q1, Q2, Q3, Q5 and Q6 identified in the Levine-Fricke Report. These locations correspond to EMC's clearance sampling locations CS-1, CS-2, CS-3, CS-5 and CS-6, respectively. Clearance sample locations are presented on Plate 5. Three clearance samples were collected at both CS-1 and CS-6 at a depth of 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 feet bgs. EMC collected one sample at 1.5 feet bgs for samples CS-2 through C-5 and CS-7 through CS-11. EMC collected a total of 15 clearance soil samples for laboratory analysis. All clearance sampling locations were approved by Mr. Infurna. Clearance soil samples were collected in 6-inch pre-cleaned stainless steel tubes using a hand sampler. The end of the tubes were covered with Teflon tape, capped with plastic caps, sealed and placed in a cooled ice chest for transport under Chain-of-Custody procedures to Quanterra Environmental Services (Quanterra), a state certified laboratory in West Sacramento, California, for analysis. The samples were analyzed for Total Pesticides by EPA Method 8080. Excavated soil was stockpiled on visqueen and covered at the location identified of Plate 4. GROUNDWATER SAMPLING EMC excavated in the area of CS-1 to a depth of approximately 8 feet bgs to collect a groundwater sample. Groundwater was encountered at 7 feet bgs. The water sample, Water-1, was collected with a new pre-cleaned bailer and decanted into laboratory supplied containers. The sample was immediately placed in an iced cooler and transported under Chain-of-Custody procedures to Quanterra for analysis. The sample was analyzed for Pesticides by EPA Method 8080. RESULTS EMC collected a total of 15 clearance soil samples. Results of laboratory analysis indicated that all soil samples, with the exception of CS-8@1.5 feet bgs, reported non-detectable levels for all analytes in the EPA 8080 series. Laboratory results for sample CS-8@1.5 feet bgs reported 0.075 ppm 4,4'-DDE, 0.021 ppm 4,4'-DDD and 0.650 ppm 4,4'-DDT.
