30
ENVIROM ET RIX
Environmental Consultants
San Joaquin County Public Health Services April 26, 1996
Environmental Health Division
P.O.Box 338
Stockton,California 95201-0388
Attention: Mr.Mike Infurna
ADAENDUMN& I
SOLE REMEDIATION WORKPLAN
25 ACRE-"P%IN PROPERTY
STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
EMC JOB No. 196341
Dear Mr.Infurna
This letter presents an addendum to the soil remediation workplan dated April 5, 1996,prepared by
Envirometrix Corporation(EMC)on behalf of Florsheim Homes. The 25-acre Ripkin property is
located in Stockton, San Joaquin County,California(Plates 1 and 2). EMC proposes to excavate,
transport and dispose of approximately 50 cubic yards(cy)of soil contaminated with
Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane(DDT)and related compounds.
BACKGROUND
The 25-acre property has historically been used for agriculture. In 1989,Levine Fricke was
contracted by the Grupe Development Company to perform an Environmental Site Assessment(ESA)
on the property. The results of the ESA were presented a report titled Environmental Assessment
Report, Ripkin Development Site, San Joaquin County, California, dated March 23, 1989. As part of
the ESA,soil samples were collected for analysis for pesticides in an area once believed used for
rinsing pesticide containers(Plate 3).
The Total Threshold Limit Concentration(TTLC),established by the State Department of Health
Services, and the county action limit for DDT and related compounds is 1.0 part per million(ppm)
and the Soluble Threshold Limit Concentration(STLC)for DDT is 0.1 mg/L. Based on EMC's
review of the ESA,DDT and related compounds were detected in concentrations exceeding the TTLC
in one sample(Q l)at 1 foot below the ground surface(bgs)collected at northeast corner of the site
(Plate 3). Samples were not analyzed for soluble DDT.
PROPOSED SOII,REMEDIATION
EMC proposes to excavate approximately 50 cy of DDT contaminated soil in the area presented on
Plate 3. Dimensions of the excavation will be approximately 15 feet by 60 feet,to a depth of 1.5 foot.
EMC will collect and analyze up to 11 clearance soil samples for both TTLC and STLC analysis.
3950 industrial Boulevard .
