Method 8020 Groundwater collected from well VW-1 was further analyzed to confirm the presence
or absence of MTBE in groundwater following EPA Test Method 8260 The laboratory reports and
chain of custody documentation are presented in Appendix B
' Analytical Results
' TPHg was detected in wells MW-9, MW-13, MW-14, MW-16, MW-24, MW-25, MW-26 and VW-1
at concentrations ranging from 60 to 6,300 µg/l TPHg was not detected In downgradlent well MW-
11, however, TPHg was detected in downgradient well MW-26 at a concentration of 100 µg/l TPHd
was detected in wells MW-9, MW-11, MW-12, MW-13, MW-14 and VW-1 at concentrations
ranging from 63 to 170 µg/l TPHd was detected in downgradient well MW-I 1 at a concentration of
64 µg/l
Benzene was detected in each of the wells sampled, with the exception of wells MW-1 1 and MW-12,
at concentrations ranging from 1 2 to 2,300 ig/l MTBE was detected in wells MW-9, MW-13,
' MW-14, MW-26 and VW-1 at concentrations ranging from 0 8 to 43 µg/l MTBE was not detected
in well VW-1 when analyzed by EPA Test Method 8260 The absence of detectable MTBE using
EPA Test Method 8260 Indicates that non-MTBE compounds were quantified by EPA Test Method
' 1020
TPHg, TPHd, benzene and MTBE concentrations are depicted on Figure 3 A summary of the
analytical laboratory test results Is presented on Table 1 Laboratory reports and chain-of-custody
records are presented In Appendix B
WORK IN PROGRESS
Geocon performed a vapor extraction pilot test (VET) at the Shop 10 site on August 15, 1996 The
purpose of the VET was to evaluate the feasibility and economics of using vapor extraction to
I remove residual TPHg from soil beneath the site Results of the test indicate that soil vapor
extraction Is both technically and economically feasible The VET results have been Included in a
Problem Assessment Report/Corrective Action Plan that has been submitted to Caltrans separately
from this quarterly groundwater monitoring report
1
' Project No 58100-06-62 -3- November 27 1996
