xSoil Vapor Extraction and Air Sparging
Performance Monitoring Plan
Stockton Yard Maintenance Facility,Stockton
Page 1-2
positive displacement vacuum blower. Soil vapor is piped from the four vapor extraction wells to the
air/liquid separator. The air/liquid separator consists of a vessel which removes and stores water
entrained from extracted soil vapor. The soil vapor is then treated in the oxidizer where TPH-G,and
BTEX compounds are converted to CO2 and water vapor. In addition, contaminants volatilized by
the AS are captured by the SVETS. The SUETS radius of influence was determined to be 35 feet (11
meters (m)) based on vacuum measurements obtained during the August 1996 soil vapor extraction
pilot test performed at the site.
The AS compressor is an Ingersoll Rand rotary screw Model No. XF7.5 rated at 31 cfm (878 L/min)
and 100 pounds per square inch gage [(psig) (5172 mm Hg)]. It includes two oil coalescing filters.
The AS radius of influence was determined to be 25 feet (7.6.m) based on pressure influence
observed from the August 1996air sparge'pilot test. The compressor was sized to supply an air flow
rate of approximately 5 cfm (142 L/min) per sparge injection point. Compressor accessories include
an electric motor of NEMA design, electrical control switch,v-belt drive with totally enclosed drive
guard, pressure switch and safety valve, mounting stand, three micron inlet particulate filter,
discharge pressure gage, hour meter,mounting frame, 80-gallon (303 L) ASME-coded horizontal
receiver tank, and receiver condensate drain valve.
1.3 System Controls
The cause of an automatic oxidizer shutdown which results from operating conditions that exceed a
programmed controller limit is displayed with a red alarm light located on the front of the oxidizer
control panel. The following table lists the Processor Controlled Alarm Set Points for the King,
( Buck Technology system.
1 ' Item Low High Description
TE301 600° F 316°C N/A Oxidizer Inlet Temperature
TE302 N/A 1200 °F 649°C Oxidizer Exit Temperature
FT101 20 scfm 566 L/min N/A Low Process Flow
LS103 N/A . This interlock control is designed
to ensure that contaminants volatized by AS are captured and treated by the SUETS.
DAPMP\Stockton Yard PMP.doc
