ameO
• Collection and laboratory analysis of appropriate trip blank samples, equipment rinsate
blank samples, and duplicate samples to monitor for contamination of samples in the
field or the laboratory; and
• Collection and laboratory analysis of controlled standards and matrix spike samples to
evaluate accuracy and precision.
Trip blanks will be prepared by the laboratory and included in each shipment containing
a samples to be analyzed for TPHg, BTEX, fuel oxygenates, lead scavengers.
Equipment rinsate blank (EB) samples contain de-ionized water passed through and over the
surface of decontaminated sampling equipment. .The rinse water is collected in sample
bottles, preserved as necessary, and handled in the same manner as the samples. EB'
samples are used to monitor effectiveness of the decontamination process. EB samples will
be collected at a frequency of one per day. The EB samples will be analyzed for TPHg, BTEX,
fuel oxygenates, lead scavengers.
Duplicate groundwater samples will be collected for groundwater samples only at a rate of one
duplicate per every 10 samples. These samples will be submitted to the analytical laboratory
as blind samples with no indication as to which primary sample was duplicated. The duplicate
samples will be analyzed for the same constituents as the primary sample.
3.5 SAMPLING LABELING AND SHIPPING
Samples will be assigned a unique identification with labels showing project number, sample
location, and depth interval denoted either by depth or a sequential numbering system (if
applicable). Samples will be transferred to the analytical laboratory under chain-of-custody
(COC) control. The COC will include the sample identification, location, date and time of
sampling, number and type of containers, and a list of analyses to be performed.
Groundwater samples will be packed in ice chests containing sealed blue ice or wet ice
contained in double-bagged sealable plastic bags. Special care will be taken to pack sample
containers to minimize breakage. Ice chests will be delivered daily to the analytical laboratory.
1 3.6 INVESTIGATION WASTE MANAGEMENT
•r Soil cuttings, purge water, and rinse water generated during drilling and sampling will be
rtemporarily stored on Site pending profiling, transportation, and off-Site disposal or recycling at
•+ an appropriate facility. Caltrans will store soil cuttings, purge water, and rinsate in Department
of Transportation (DOT) approved 55-gallon drums. All waste containers will be clearly
labeled with generator contact and phone number, drilling location(s), and date of generation.
AMEC Geomatrix, Inc.
P:\Project\14000s\14443_Caltrans\TO 10\11000_PLANSVIS WP—March 2010VWS WP.doc 11
Z
