ACME tUCK PARTS & EQUIPAkNT
ENVIRONMENTAL/HAZ-MAT TRAINING
gInh rent to the activities of our type of business is the use of many chemicals and
of er products that nay be considered toxic or hazardous. It is to your benefit to
come aware of the properties of any cleaning or refinishing products that are
eing used in your work and that you are informed of the proper measures to be
taken to insure the safety of you and your fellow workers. Properties such as toxicity
and the flammability of each product on the premises are available on a Material
Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). The MSDS also shows health and first aid information.
A copy of each MSDS is on file in the office and it is your right to see this
information.
The storage of these chemicals is regulated by city and state laws and it is part of
your job to comply with these laws as directed by company policy.
Safe usage and storage are only a part of the overall concern of hazardous
materials. The waste generated, and the disposal of that waste, is another major
concern.
One of our major goals in the use of these products, besides safety, is to maintain
them in such a state that they can be recycled or disposed of economically. By
reclaiming these chemicals, carefully, we can not only lower our overall cost, but we
can also decrease the amount of toxic waste being disposed into landfill dumps.
In order to maintain a waste product so that it can be recycled, it is important that
certain waste products not be intermixed. For example, mixing cleaning solvent
with waste motor oil creates a toxic waste that may cost as much as $5.00 per gallon
to dispose of. On theh
other and, ct could be salvaged and
recycler.
THE FOLLOWING IS A LIST OF WASTE PRODUCTS THAT CAN BE
INTERMIXED AND STILL DE CONSIDERED "WASTE OIL":
Motor Oil, Transmission Gear Fluid, Power Steering Fluid, Diesel Fuel No, f
Automatic Transmission Fluid, Kerosene, Diesel Fuel No. 2, Stove Oil
** NOTE: These products are reclaimed and recycled by a licensed recycler.
E USE TWO BASIC TYPES OF CLEANING SOLVENTS THAT CANNOT BE
INTERMIXED OR MIXED WITH ANY OTHER WASTE PRODUCT:
Degreaser (Basic Cleaning Solvent)
Strip Chlorinated Dip Tank Solvent
** NOTE: These solvents must not be mixed after they have been determined too
soiled to be used.
DISPOSITION OF COMMON CHEMICALS AT ACME TRUCK PART321
