!' r
I SIT
15 July 2005
} AGE-NC Project No. 04-1158 #
' 4
directly beneath the bottom of the inlet side of the septic tank. The sample depth for STP-2 was
approximately 1.5 feet below the septic tank bottom and 4.5 feet below surface grade. Soil samples
were collected using a hand auger and slide hammer loaded with a single 2-inch by 6-inch brass
sleeve. The sleeve of each soil sample assembly was preserved by covering both ends of the brass
sleeve with Teflon sheets, capping, and sealing with tape.
All samples were properly labeled, placed in a appropriate, chilled container and transported under
chain-of-custody to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratory a State of California Department of Health
Services certified laboratory. Selected samples were analyzed for:
J
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d) in
accordance with EPA Method 8015m; and i
• Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) 8260 (full scan) `in accordance with EPA
Method 8260b.
LABORATORY RESULTS
Sample STP-1 was not selected for analysis, the sample was collected from inside the septic tank and
would not accurately represent conditions under the septic tank. None of the target analytes were
detected in sample STP-2 at concentrations above the detection limits.
Copies of the laboratory report(CTEL Project No:CT214-0505248}and chain-of-custody form are
included in Appendix A.
i
,F
SEPTIC SYSTEM STATUS j
The septic system is presently offline. It is our understanding that under an appropriate permit from
the SJCEHD the representativesof EAB Bacon Island Propertyilplan to abandon(destroy)the septic
tank. Since abandonment of the septic tank is anticipated,an inspection of the integrity of the current !
septic tank should not be required to close the investigation.
a 1 I
i
RECOMMENDATIONS
i
Based on the results of this investigation,AGE recommends that no further action be required at this
site related to the previously-identified conditions.
