M. Scott Mansholt -2- 10 June 2009
Former Lyoth Loading Station
Tracy, San Joaquin County
monitoring wells need to be destroyed in accordance with San Joaquin County guidelines.
Consequently, SAIC has submitted the Workplan for destruction of groundwater monitoring
' wells 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7.
The wells range in total depth from 23 to 32 feet below ground surface and are constructed of
two-inch diameter polyvinyl chloride casing and a gravel pack within 8.25-inch diameter
borings. In addition to obtaining County permits, SAIC proposes to overdrill each well to the
total depth using hollow-stem auger drilling equipment. The total boring depths will be
determined in the field and then backfilled with neat cement to the surface using a tremmie
pipe. Existing bollards will be removed and any depressions left after removal will be filled to
the surface with neat cement.
' Central Valley Water Board staff concurs that the groundwater monitoring wells be destroyed
as described in the Workplan and need to comply with applicable San Joaquin County well
destruction guidelines. By 7 October 2009, please provide the summary report documenting
the well destruction activities.
' If you have any questions or comments, please contact Dean Hubbard at (559) 445-5179.
SHELTON R.
