Box 6012
San Ramon, California 94583-0712
Subject: Groundwater Monitoring Well Destruction Work Plan
Former Lyoth Loading Station,
26501 South Banta Road
Lyoth, San Joaquin County, California
Dear Mr. Mansholt:
At the request of Chevron Environmental Management Company (CEMC), Science
Applications International Corporation (SAIC) prepared this work plan to properly
destroy site groundwater monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, MW-3, MW-4, MW-6, and
MW-7 at the former Lyoth Loading Station site (the site; see Figure 1 and Figure 2).
SAIC submitted a No Further Action Required (NFAR) request to the Regional Water
Quality Control Board (RWQCB) in April 20081. The RWQCB requested further
evaluation, and SAIC submitted a supplemental risk evaluation for the site in January
20092. The RWQCB concurred with the conclusions of the NFAR request, and noted
that the site is a candidate for closure (see Attachment A). SAIC is submitting this work
plan in anticipation of approval from the RWQCB for proper destruction of the
monitoring wells prior to issuing the NFAR for the site.
Monitoring wells at the site range in depth from 23.15 feet to 31.66 feet below ground
surface, and are constructed of 2 inch-diameter polyvinyl chloride casing, installed in
8.25-inch (assumed) soil borings. Table 1 presents a summary of well construction
details, and the boring log for MW-7 is included in Attachment B. Table 1 also specifies
1. SAIC,2008. No Further Action Required Request Report, Former Lyoth Loading Station, 26501 South Banta Road,
Lvoth,San Joaquin County, California. April.
2. SAIC.2009. Health Risk Assessment Addendum, Former Lyoth Loading Station,26501 South Banta Road,Lyoth,
California. January.
