MAR 12 92 14:45 C.KC: 9163715821 P. 1
4. Each sample will be received by the, laboratory within two days of collection.
Samples will be kept in a clean ice-cooled chest. "Blue Ice" is recommended instead
of ice during transport to the laboratory. All samples will be delivered to the
laboratory under chain-of-custody documentation., with the original included in the ice
chest. A copy of the chain-of-custody will be kept for the project file.
5. finless otherwise requested by the laboratory, no preservatives will be added to the
sample.
6. The sealed sample container will be opened only by the laboratory personnel who will
perform the chemical analysis. The samples will be analyzed within 7 to 14 days
from their collection date depending can EPA quality control criteria appropriate for
each analytical method.
7. ,lie analytical laboratory will provide laboratory quality assurancelquality control
documentation. This will include results from method spike, method blank analyses,
and duplicate analysis tone duplicate for every ten samples analyzed).
Sample Collection
i. Groundwater samples will not be collected until the well been allowed to stabilize
for 24 fours following well development. Prior to purging, the water level in the
well will be measured and the well checked for free floating product. The water level
in the well will be checked with an electronic well sounder. The well will be checked
for free floating product by utidzing a transparent bailer to collect a liquid sample
from the water surface. The liquid sample inside the bailer will then be visually
examined for evidence of free floating product. The thickness of any free floating
R, product layer will be recorded in the field notes. Water samples will also be inspected
for the presence of odor and/or sheen.
a
Each well will be purged of water prior to the collection of the water sample. Three
to five well volumes will be removed from the well by bailing or pumping. After
three to five well volumes have been removed from the well, three successive water
samples will be measured for pH, conductivity, and temperature using properly
calibrated instrumentation. Well purging shall continue until the measurements from
three successive water samples are constant.
3. All well purge water will be recovered and placed in 55-gallon drums. The well will
be .allowed to recover to at least 80 percent of originally measured water level before
a water sample is collected.
4. Equipment used for well purging will be thoroughly steam-cleaned or cleaned in soapy
(TSP) water, rinsed with clean tap water, and finally rinsed with de-ionized water
prior to the use in each well.
.46 A-4
