interval is encountered within 100 feet of the surface, it will also be sampled. The exact sampling
interval will be determined based on CPT logs.
Sampling of groundwater will be performed by using a CPT rig to drive a Hydropunch sampling
system. The Hydropunch system functions by pushing 1.75- or 1.5-inch diameter hollow chrom-
moly steel rods, equipped with an internal telescoping 0.006 slotted stainless steel screen and
retrievable tip. The Hydropunch will be driven at or adjacent to the original CPT location.
Groundwater samples will be collected at discrete subsurface intervals, based on the logs of the
adjacent CPTs. Once the desired sample interval is reached, the rods will be partially retracted,
exposing the Hydropunch screen. The amount of screen exposed will depend on the size of the
sample target zone. A maximum of three samples will be collected at each CPT point.
Groundwater samples will be collected with a small diameter stainless steel bailer and transferred
directly into 40-ml volatile organic analysis (VOA) glass bottle. The VOA bottles will stored in an
insulated case cooled to a temperature of approximately four degrees Centigrade pending laboratory
analysis. The Hydropunch screen and drive rods will be brushed, washed with a high pressure
washer, and air dried. The bailer will be cleaned with an Alconox scrub wash, double rinsed with
tap water, rinsed once rinse with distilled water, and air dried after each sample. All purge and
decontamination water will be collected in a splash pan and transferred to a 55-gallons drum. Upon
completion of sampling, the Hydropunch boreholes will be grouted with a cement:bentonite grout
to grade.
3.3 Task 3: Laboratory Analyses
The groundwater samples will be submitted to a California-certified analytical laboratory for
analysis. The analyses will be conducted on a standard turn-around time basis in accordance with
EPA specified holding times. The samples will be analyzed for chloroform and carbon tetrachloride
by EPA Method 8010 with method detection limits of 0.5 µg/l.
3.4 Task 4: Investigation-Derived Waste Disposal
All water wastes generated during the field activities will be contained in 208-liter(55-gallon)drums
approved by the United Nations for transport of liquid and solid wastes. The drums will be stored
at the site in a secure area pending disposal.
3.5 Task 5: Site Investigation Report
IT will prepare a report presenting the results of the site investigation. The report will include the
following:
• Investigation summary;
• Project description;
• Introduction;
• Investigation methods;
• Deviations from the work plan, if any;
• Investigation results and field observations;
Work Plan
IT Corporation
5 All Pure,Tracy
