wood.
APPENDIX A
GROUNDWATER MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION METHODS
Olin Chlor Alkali Facility
26700 South Banta Road,
Tracy, California
A.1.0 INTRODUCTION
This attachment details the methodology for the proposed installation of a groundwater
monitoring well presented in the "Well Decommissioning and Replacement Well Installation
Work Plan" (referred to herein as the "Work Plan").
A.2.0 FIELD METHODOLOGY
Prior to implementing fieldwork activities, Wood will update the health and safety plan (if
needed), obtain permits, contact the Underground Service Alert one-call center, and contract a
private utility locator. Wood will contract with a licensed C-57 driller contractor to perform
drilling and well installation activities.
A.2.1 GROUNDWATER MONITORING WELLS
The procedures for installation, development, and sampling of monitoring wells are described
in the following sections.
A.2.1.1 Monitoring Well Installation
The boring will be advanced using hollow-stem auger (HSA) drilling methods.
The soil will be continuously cored at each boring location and drilling equipment will be
decontaminated between borings. Lithologic information from the soil cores will be recorded
on geologic logs using the Unified Soil Classification System, in accordance with visual-manual
procedures of the ASTM International Standard D2488. Soil moisture and color will also be
recorded on the geologic log. Soil logging activities will be performed by a field geologist
under the supervision of a California-licensed Professional Geologist.
The new monitoring well (MW-17) will be constructed in compliance with the appropriate state
(Department of Water Resources, 1991) and local well permitting requirements.
