MANIC{RS ES"JEFSCOIlSI._1MT$
3.0 GROUNDWATER SAMPLING
3.1 GROUNDWATER SAMPLING METHODOLOGY
Groundwater samples were collected from wells MW-1, MW-4 and MW-5 on 8 November 1996
and from well MW-5 on 9 December 1996 Since contaminants were not detected the
groundwater samples collected from MW-1 and MW-4, these wells were not resampled during
the 9 December sampling event Groundwater sampling worksheets are presented in Appendix
C
Prior to sampling, water level measurements were taken from all wells The standing water
volumes within the wells scheduled for sampling were then calculated A bailer was used to
remove a minimum of three well casing volumes from monitor wells MW-4 and MW-5
Approximately one well volume was removed from MW-1 because the well went dry during
purging
At the beginning and during the purge process, the temperature, pH and electrical conductivity
of the purge water were measured This information was recorded on sampling data sheets
Samples were collected with a Teflon bailer Samples were sealed in plastic bags and placed
with ice in an insulated chest for delivery to the analytical laboratory
The bailers used to purge and sample the wells were thoroughly cleaned pnor to use by washing
with water and Alconox followed by a deionized water nnse
3.2 ANALYTICAL METHODS
Allg roundwater samples were analyzed by EPA Method 8020 for BTEX and by EPA Method
8015M for TPH-G The analyses were performed by American Environmental Network in
Pleasant Hill
3.3 GROUNDWATER PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND POTENTIOMETRIC
SURFACE ELEVATIONS
Table 3-1 presents a summary of groundwater physical characteristics and depth to water
measurements collected on 8 November and 9 December 1996 Groundwater elevations
decreased in MW-1 and MW-5 by 0 15 ft and 0 10 ft, respectively, between 8 November and
9 December The groundwater elevation increased by 0 90 in MW-4 over the same period
L TR0IECr"ANJ0QMCL0D1 REP 8 J...Y 1997
