MaNAGFPS flERS LON$r1A\'[5
slope Excavation without shoring will allow for expanding the size of the excavation and also
I permits the inspection and sampling of sfdewalls
The sloped sidewall method is recommended for this site to complete the soil removal because
it will allow for expansion of the excavation, if necessary, allow for sidewall sampling, and is
a less costly method Depending on site conditions it may be necessary to utilize a limited
Iamount of shonng in the excavation to protect the integrity of the nearby building and UST
7.2 PREVIOUS EXCAVATION
In 1986, petroleum impacted soil was excavated from the beneath the former UST's. The
excavation was completed to a maximum depth of 31 ft bgs in the immediate area of the former
unleaded gasoline UST. The former excavation was backfilled with clean fill material. This
fill will be stockpiled for backfilling the proposed excavation.
7.3 PROPOSED EXCAVATION
Prior to beginning soil excavation at the site any required permits, including but not limited to
grading permits, will be obtained. All utilities identified in the area will be clearly marked.
Any utilities that may be within the excavation will be temporary disconnected
Safety is a primary concern during construction activities The edges of the excavation must be
properly barricaded or fenced to minimize the potential for accidents It is important that the
appropriate sized construction equipment be utilized to ensure safe operations
The estimated horizontal extent of petroleum impacted soil is shown in Figure 3 This estimate
is based on available analytical results from previous work completed at the site The estimated
extent of petroleum impacted soil will be identified on the ground surface prior to excavating
This will aid in planning the approach for impacted soil removal.
Based on a review of analytical results from soil borings completed at the site, it is estimated
that soil beginning at a depth of 31 ft, and continuing to approximately 40 ft bgs will require
removal Figure 4 shows a cross section at the former UST area and indicates the estimated
extent of impacted soil to be excavated For the purposes of this plan, the extent of impacted
soil identified requiring excavation is estimated. The actual extent of soil requiring excavation
will be based on FID readings and visual observations
LSPROJECPSVS"JOQXLODS ACP 14 15 May 19"
