SECTION 2
ENVIRONMENTAL SAMPLING AND TESTING
The soil investigation included the installation of four (4) direct-push borings from within or
adjacent to site buildings, collecting two (2) sediment samples from two site sumps, and one
(1) hand auger location from the onsite vacant field. The following sections describe the soil
investigation activities. Figure 1 shows the site location and Figure 2 shows the approximate
Sage sampling locations. The Figures are provided in Appendix A.
2.1 Target Analytes
Based on review of the provided information and experience with similar properties, a testing
program was developed to analyze compounds believed to have the greatest potential for
being found at the site. The proposed sampling plan for this investigation included
analysis of the following compounds:
• Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs);
• Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH-E);
• Pesticides; and
• Herbicides.
2.2 Boring and Sediment Sampling Locations
The original investigation sampling plan included eight(8) direct-push borings from within
or adjacent to site buildings, two (2) sediment samples from the site sumps, and one (1)
hand auger sample from within the vacant field located on the western portion of the Subject
Property.
Due to either interior access issues or a determination that the boring was not necessary, Sage
only installed four(4)direct-push borings at the site and the two(2)sump samples were
relocated based on information obtained at the Subject Property during the investigation.
Soil samples were collected from depths of 14-15 feet in each of the borings(SB-1, SB-2, SB-3
and SB-4); from approximately 8 feet below surface grade(bsg)in the two sumps(NE Sump
Field and Sump MW2 field); and from a depth of 1.0 to 1.5 feet in the vacant field(HA-1).
Please refer to Figure 2 for boring/sampling locations.
2.3 RECs or Other Concerns
Sage reviewed a Phase I ESA conducted by ENVIRON International Corporation in
December 2012, in which ENVIRON did not identify any RECs in connection with the
property. Based on the ENVIRON Phase I ESA findings the following issues were identified
as either Other Findings or De Minimis conditions:
Sage Environmental Consulting,L.P. 2-1 Westlake Chemical Company
July 2013 Lodi,CA,Phase II Investigation
