Mihalovich
Chevron Environmental Management Company
December 21, 2000
Page 2
SUMMARY OF EXISTING DATA
The following summary of existing data is based on data presented in the reports and
memorandums listed below.
American Environmental Management Corporation, 1986, "Soil Excavation and
Disposal Plan, Tennis Villa Tract#1766, Renown Enterprises, Inc., Tracy,
California,"August.
Dames & Moore, 1987, "Review of Soil Boring and Groundwater Chemical Test
Data, Renown Enterprises Site, Corner of Tracy Boulevard and Beechnut Avenue,
Tracy, California," September 10.
Dames & Moore, 1989, "Phase II, Groundwater Investigation, Renown Enterprises
Property, Tracy, California,"March 3.
Dames &Moore, 1997, "Data Summary, Renown Property, Tracy, California,"
March 25.
Geomatrix Consultants, Inc., 1997, "Results of Limited Soil Assessment, Chevron
Property at 990 Beechnut Avenue, Assessors Parcel Number 234-070-02, Tracy,
California,"February 13.
Memorandum from Mr. Sheldon N. Nelson to Ms. Miriam Barbonio, "Renown
Enterprises Property, Tracy, California,"June 5, 2000.
Investigations conducted by others between September 1979 and August 1996 included 21
soil borings and three test pits. However, chemical data are only available from five of the
borings and the three test pits. Historical boring and test pit locations are shown on Figure 2.
In September 1979, Terrasearch, Inc., advanced two borings on the site (T-10 and T-17); no
data were available from these borings. Groundwater Technology advanced eight additional
soil borings (T-1 through T-8) on the site in November 1985, however, according to Dames &
Moore (1987), no soil samples were submitted for chemical analysis. One of the boring logs
(T-4) noted oily soil between the interval of about 2 to 11 feet bgs. To further assess the
extent of affected soil and groundwater at the adjacent Renown Property, Dames and Moore
advanced three test pits (P-18 through P-20) and three soil borings (B-1 through B-3) on the
Beechnut property in August 1988 and analyzed soil samples from the test pits and borings
for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) quantified as oil and grease (TPHog). One sample
also was analyzed for TPH quantified as gasoline (TPHg), TPH quantified as diesel (TPHd),
and TPH quantified as kerosene (TPHk). In May 1989, Dames and Moore advanced five
shallow borings at the site (G-6 through G-9 and G-18). These borings were likely advanced
