' KLE/NFELOER
will be removed, and the selected sampling interval will be sealed with Teflon sheets and plastic
end caps.
Soil samples will be collected continuously during the advancement of the pushprobes at
depths ranging from the aggregate roadway base rock and soil interface to the proposed
maximum depth of approximately 6 feet bgs. During the advancement of the borings, soil
samples will be collected using a Photo Ionization Detector (PID) for lithologic classification and
qualitative field screening. The PID measures ionizable compounds in air in parts per million by
volume. Lithologic classification will be based on the Unified Soil Classification System.
Kleinfelder proposes collecting one soil sample in each of the nine probes along the alignment
for potential chemical analyses. These soil samples will be collected at intervals ranging from
the base on the roadway section, estimated at 2'/ feet bgs, to approximately six feet bgs. This
may vary depending upon field observations indicating evidence of petroleum impacted soils.
However, we estimate that one soil sample collected from each boring will be sufficient for the
purposes of this assessment.
After collection, the soil samples will be labeled, logged on a chain-of-custody form, and
immediately stored in an iced cooler. The samples will be transported under chain-of-custody
control to Kleinfelder's office and then transported by courier in a chilled container to a State
accredited laboratory to perform the requested analyses. Kleinfelder is proposing submittal of
one soil sample from each boring location (total of 9) during the pushprobe investigation for the
following analyses:
• Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons (Diesel Range) [TPHd] by EPA Method
8015M/DHS LUFT
• Total Purgeable Petroleum Hydrocarbons (Gasoline Range [TPHg] by EPA
Method 8015M
• Volatile Organic Compounds by EPA Method 8260B
The samples will be submitted on a standard 5 to 10 business day turn-around time.
Reporting
Upon completion of the field activities and receipt of the analytical results a report of findings
will be developed which will include the following:
• Project description and scope of work;
• A description of the field activities, observations, and protocols;
• Tabulated results of soil samples with copies of certified analytical results;
• A graphical representation of sample locations; and
133385.2/ST013L0278 Page 2 of 4
Copyright 2013 Kleinfelder April 2, 2013
