x S
I.
t
f
t .
T`
The procedures for measuring water levels are based on procedures describe in the RCRA
Ground Water Monitoring Technical Enforcement Guidance Document(EPA, 1986), and are ?
as follows: r
1. Remove the locking and protective caps. r
2. Sample the air in the well head for presence of organic vapors using an
OVA if dictated by site Health and Safety Plan.
3. Determine the static liquid level depth from the top of the PVC casing
(surveyed measuring point)using a chalked steel tape or electric
sounder.
0
_. 4. Measure the presryn.' of light(floater) and/or dense (sinker) immiscible
2yer(s) in the well using an interface probe.
f
-- 5. Make a notch or mark on the PVC casing where the measurement was r s
taken if other than survey mark or top of casing. 4 '
Monitoring the air above the well head will indicate explosive potential and/or toxic potential
r
e for workers. The air monitoring may also indicate presence of immiscible layers. The steel t
tape or electric sounder will be used to measure the static water Ievel depth ii no immiscible F
layers are present, or the approximate depth if immiscible layers are present. The interface ; 4
probe will then be lowered down the well to measure both the static water level and/or light `
or heavy immiscible layers. The interface probe will first measure the air/floater interface I
and the floater/water interface to establish the thickness of the floater layer. After the probe
has passed through the immiscible layer, it will measure the depth to the water level. The
probe can then be Iowered to the bottom of the well to register the presence of'sinker
organic liquids.
The calibrated water level probes, including steel tapes, electric sounders, and interface
probes, will be decontaminated before use in each well.
t
4
..53sosation9 oix.rs $ ;
1 51
