Chevron Products Company 3
Chevron Service Station 9-4275,2905 W.Benjamin Holt Drive,Stockton,California July 11,2001
of the former piping. The granular backfill of the piping was removed to reveal the
native clayey sand soils. This depth interval was sampled at each location.
No visual evidence or odors were present that suggested a release emanated from the
product line or dispenser.
Sample A was at the northwestern corner of the excavation for the piping. Sample B
was collected approximately 20-feet southeast of sample A along the trend of the
product piping and sample C was collected beneath the former dispenser location,
approximately 10 feet southeast of sample B.
The San Joaquin County representative noted the secondary containment piping around
approximately I 0-feet of the product line had been previously removed and sealed. To
ensure the lack of secondary containment had not led to soil impacts, two additional
samples, B2 and B3 were collected.
The soil samples were delivered to Sequoia Analytical in Sacramento, California and
analyzed for total (purgeable) petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), benzene,
toluene, ethyl benzene, and xylenes (BTEX), fuel oxygenates and methanol. Fuel
oxygenates include ethanol, tert-butyl ether (TBA), methyl tert-butyl ether (MtBE), di-
isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tert-butyl ether(EtBE), tert-amyl methyl ether (TAME),
1,2 dichloroethane (1,2 DCA) and ethylene dibromide (EDB).
The laboratory did not detect concentrations of TPHg, BTEX, fuel oxygenates, or
methanol at or above laboratory method detection limits. Field and laboratory
procedures are presented in Appendix A. Certified laboratory reports and chain-of-
custody documentation are presented in Appendix B.
SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
No petroleum hydrocarbons were reported in soil samples collected during the removal
of the methanol dispenser and product lines. Non-detectable concentrations of
petroleum hydrocarbons reported in soil samples collected in the area of the dispenser
and associated product lines suggest that no releases have occurred in these areas.
If you have any questions or comments regarding this letter, please feel free to call us at
(916) 861-0400.
Sincerely,
SECOR International Incorporated
le, R.
Project Manager
1:\Chevron1942751REPORTS\MeOH Line Abandonment Report.doc
