PUBLICIIEALTH SERVICES
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIVISION
Ernest M. Fujimoto, M.D., M.P.H., Acting Health Officer
445 N. San Joaquin Street • P.O. PHS/EHD has the following
comments for your consideration.
Between October 11, 1993 and October 19, 1993, two monitoring wells (MW1 - MW2)
six air sparge wells (S1 - S6) and seven soil vapor extraction wells (V1 - V7) were
installed. Soil samples were collected for laboratory analysis during the installation of
most wells, at varying depths, with the exception of S3, S6, V2, V3, and V4. The soil
data obtained aided in the definition of soil contamination. However, the extent of soil
contamination to the northeast, east, southeast, south, and southwest remains undefined.
The report indicated that MW1 and V7 were continuously cored. Please provide cross
sections of the lithology encountered.
The soil cuttings generated during drilling and the subsequent well development water
were transported off site. Please submit disposal documentation for this contaminated
material.
The monitoring wells were sampled on November 9, 1993. The newly installed
monitoring wells, MW1 and MW2, aided in the definition of groundwater contamination
associated with the site. However, the groundwater contamination to the southwest and
south of the site remains undefined. PHS/EHD has repeatedly requested information
and indication that negotiations with neighboring property owners to the south were
underway. Please provide PHS/EHD with evidence to suggest that efforts to gain access
to drill an off site well continue.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Service.
