EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The project site, which is the former Exxon service station at 3128 West Benjamin Holt
Drive, is located in northwest Stockton,California, at the southeast corner of Grigsby
Place and West Benjamin Holt Drive, approximately 200 feet west of Interstate 5. The site
is surrounded.by a mixture of commercial and residential properties. The site is bounded
by a shopping center and a Shell gasoline station to the north,a church and residential area
to the west,a water tower.Seven-Eleven parking lot and store and residential area to the
south and Interstate Highway 5 to the east.
'- The site was an active Exxon Retail Service Station from 1968 to 1991. Three single--
walled steel underground storage tattles previously containing gasoline and having a
capacity of 6,000 gallons, 8,000 gallons and 10,000 gallons are located in the northeast
corner of the site. A 1,000 gallon waste oil tank is located in the southern portion of the
site, south of the station hoase/garage. According to a report by Engineering Science, Inc.
(ESI)of Berkeley, California, all underground storage tanks on the property are original.
PREVIOUS INVESTIGATIONS
In March, 1991, Engineering Science,Inc. of Berkeley,California(ESI)drilled three soil
borings at the site and converted them into 4-inch diameter groundwater monitor wells, MW-
1, MW-2 and MW-3. Depth to groundwater was treasured at approximately 14 feet below
ground surface. Groundwater flow direction is to the northeast.
In June, 1991,Artesian Environmental Consultants (Artesian) conducted a Phase II
subsurface investigation at the site to evaluate the vertical and lateral extent of the
hydrocarbons detected in the soils in the previous investigation and the lateral extent of
hydrocarbons detected in the groundwater.
Four soil borings, B-4 through B-7, were drilled to a depth of 20 feet below ground surface.
Groundwater samples were collected from B-4 through B-7 using hydropunch sampling
iv
